Recyclable bottom film

Using polyamide (PA) in thermoformable bottom films creates a range of problems in the widespread traditional mechanical recycling streams. Therefore, our new recyclable bottom film is based only on polypropylene (PP), including a small percentage of EVOH, which gives the possibility to modify the oxygen transmission rate (OTR) from 1 to 35 cc/m3/24h. This means that the package properties can be precisely tailored to meet the needs of the product within the package. Different welding layers are also possible, depending on the top film used – it can be welded to both PE- and PP-based top films. For both PE and PP welding layers, it is possible to incorporate a PEEL-layer for user-friendly easy opening of the package. The film can be thermoformed up to a depth of 120mm.

Recyclable top film

This new polypropylene-based top film is meant to go together with our new thermoformable bottom film to create a matching set, which could be recycled together. Traditional top films usually consist of PET+PE or OPA+PE, which are not recyclable – if the package is thrown away with the top film still attached, it could mean that the whole package will be sorted as non-recyclable. Our new top film comes with the same options as the bottom – adjustable OTR (1 to 35 cc/m3/24h), optional PE or PP welding layer as well as PEEL-opening for both PE and PP.

Recyclable laminate

Our new polypropylene-based laminate is created to replace the traditional laminates, which usually consist of PET+PE- or OPA+PE-structures, which are non-recyclable. Our new laminate comes with a range of options, depending on the packaged product and the packaging method – adjustable OTR (1 to 35 cc/ m3/24h), optional PE or PP welding layer as well as PEEL-opening for both PE and PP. It can be sealed by using both FIN and LAP-seal. The laminate can also be coated with different print effects – paper-touch, partial matt varnish, full matt varnish or even matt material can be used.

Recyclable bio-based monofilm

This film contains over 72% of renewable, bio-based polyethylene (PE). This means that no fossil-based materials were used to produce the majority of the film. Instead, we have used material which is produced from leftover materials from sugarcane ethanol production. During production of this material, COis captured from the air and “stored” inside the PE. To be precise, Green PE has a negative footprint – one kg of Green PE captures ~3 kg of CO2. It means that if we have 72% of Green PE in our film, we capture 1,7 kg of CO2 per kg of product. Fossil-based PE, on the other hand, releases ~2 kg of CO2 into the atmosphere during the production of the material.

Marketing argument: By purchase of this package you are reducing your CO2 footprint and plastic waste as the material is made from renewable resources and is fully recyclable. For example, if you replace the fossil PE in your 60-micron film with Green PE, you reduce the carbon footprint of the package by 233% or 420 kg CO2 per 100 kg of film.

Recyclable bio-based high-barrier laminate

This high-barrier film contains over 61% of renewable, bio-based polyethylene (PE) and as it is produced only from leftover materials from sugarcane ethanol production. Just as our bio-based monofilm, the new laminate can also capture CO2 – if we have 61% of Green PE in our film, we capture 0,79 kg of CO2 per kg of product. The whole laminate is PE-based, which means it can be recycled in the PE recycling stream. To protect the packaged product inside from oxygen, we have incorporated a thin EVOH-layer inside the film, which is thin enough to not disturb the recycling process. By fine-tuning the EVOH layer thickness and composition, we can modify the oxygen barrier rate to match the product inside.

For example, if you replace the fossil PE in your PET12+PE60 laminate with Green PE, you reduce the carbon footprint of the package by 192% or 352 kg CO2 per 100 kg of laminate.
