According to Jolanda Lipu, head of the working group of the CSR Index, a record number of gold labels were issued this year which shows that sustainability is an increasingly important topic for many companies. According to Lipu, new companies and organisations join the index every year which reflects a positive trend to act more responsibly.
The packaging supplier Estiko-Plastar joined the evaluation of CSR Index two years ago, receiving a bronze label at the time. This year, the company underwent a new assessment, filling out a comprehensive questionnaire and providing feedback on the next steps taken on their sustainability journey. “Compared to last time, we have now measured the carbon footprint of the company for the last three years and we are consciously working to reduce it every year. Through the carbon management plan, we know exactly where our greenhouse gases come from and what we should pay attention to,” said Meelis Jürgens, CEO at Estiko-Plastar. According to Jürgens, cultivating a sustainable mindset also contributes to the company’s internal processes and reducing waste. “Every step taken in the right direction counts and we are happy that these steps are being recognised widely, setting us as an example for others,” said Jürgens.
According to Lipu, more than 75% of the participants updated their previous results this year.
The gold, silver and bronze level quality labels were awarded this year for the 15th time, taking into account the principles of the UN Global Compact, ESG assessment frameworks and the UN’s sustainable development goals. Quality labels are issued for two years.
